Register now for Grayson High baseball camp (June 15-18)

Sorry – but any chance to link to that video is one I have to take.

Grayson High School is hosting a baseball camp for kids 1st through 8th grades beginning Monday, June 15th at Grayson High School. The cost of the camp is $106 per child.

The camp will open at 9:00AM each day and will offer campers an opportunity to work on their fundamentals. According to the Grayson Baseball website, the typical day will look like this:

Run/Stretch/Throw: jog to get muscles loose, dynamic stretching/agility session, throwing mechanics

Defensive work: campers will learn the basics of fielding ground balls and fly balls effectively as an infielder and outfielder. Too we will work on some defensive specific drills like underhand feeds to bases for double plays and feeding pitchers at first base, hitting cutoff men on throws from the outfield and effectively and efficiently cutting and relaying throws

Offensive work: campers will be taught some basic hitting drills on tees and toss. Too campers will be introduced to the basics of bunting

Base Running: campers will be taught various base running basics at each of the four bases (running through 1st, rounding first, getting leads, retreating from a lead, reading the ball in the dirt, tagging at 3rd, etc.)

“During camp campers will move through these different stations with periodic breaks to get in the shade and refresh with a drink of water,” writes Grayson High Baseball coach Jed Hixson. “At the end of a couple of days of camp the campers will play a brief scrimmage game to be coached in game play and to have the opportunity to play a variety of positions on the field.”

Each camper will need to bring their glove, bat, helmet and cleats with their names written clearly in or on each item. Campers will also need to wear appropriate baseball attire (pants, jersey and cap) and bring a teachable attitude. Water bottles are also recommended, though the camp will have coolers and cups for water available.

Campers will be matched with others who have similar levels of skill and ability by the camp staff, which will include Grayson High’s baseball coaches as well as current and former GHS players. At the end of the week, campers will receive a T-shirt.

“The purpose of the camp is to learn and refine the baseball skills of each camper and hopefully promote a continued love for the GREAT game of baseball that is and continues to be America’s Pastime,” writes Hixson. “Too, we hope that through our camp we see young players develop and grow a burning to desire to one day play baseball in our high school program. It’s neat to see some of the ones who have come to camp over the last 12 years I have been coaching at Grayson become Grayson Ram High School Baseball players and graduate to in some instances play collegiately and professionally.
