Police arrest suspect in October 6th Bay Creek Park shooting

Mere hours after Gwinnett County Police Chief Butch Ayers assured community members at Bay Creek Park that police were close to arresting the shooter from an October 6th incident, GCPD officers made good on the Chief’s word.

On Wednesday, October 21, shortly after 9pm, officers assigned to the South Precinct Evening Watch, K9 Unit, Criminal Investigations – Gang Unit, and Snellville Police responded to 1925 North Road in Snellville.  The officers were in pursuit of Dallas Chandler Root (age 19), wanted for his involvement in the shooting at Bay Creek Park. During the course of the GCPD investigation into the shooting, the lead detective in the case determined that Root was the suspect who fired his gun on October 6th.

The responding officers to the North Road home made contact with a resident who confirmed that Root was inside the home.  Once inside the residence, the officers located the suspect in a bathroom of the home.  Root was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.

Root has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Conduct.
