I love to shop at consignment stores. I think “bargain” is my middle name and there is one store that I frequent quite regularly. In October, I found a beautiful red coat. Because I’m petite, coats are probably the hardest item to find for me. Hard is an understatement. Almost impossible. I was surprised to find this new coat still with the tags from Macy’s in a consignment store of all places. It was a perfect fit but was a little more money than I really wanted to pay. After wrestling for a few minutes I decided my husband could give me this coat for my birthday so I paid and left with this beautiful coat.
A couple of months later during some cold weather, my daughter commented on the coat I was wearing. I explained to her my story of the great find and pulled out the tags that were still in the pocket. She gasped and said that it was an incredibly expensive designer coat. What?!?! Silly me. I had no concept of the value of my gift. What an unexpected blessing.
We have just journeyed thru the Christmas season. The day has come and gone. The packages have been opened. The food has been devoured. The tree and trimmings have been put away. But may I ask the question? What if the gift of Jesus is even more valuable than we realize? What if God sending His only Son completely changes EVERYTHING? Not just a day, not just history but your life, your future, your destiny, your every….single….day! That first Christmas gift has value for today when you go to the doctor, for parenting decisions, for dealing with coworkers, when you answer the phone, when you have hopes and dreams, for every single day of the year!
Choosing Jesus comes with benefits from the GREAT Designer and with a price tag that our mind can’t even comprehend. With that gift, we get peace, love, security, future, power and so much more. We may dream big because our gift is big. Jesus-God with us. And remember He is the gift. God gave and we just choose to receive. May each day bring you more discoveries of the value of the gift of Jesus.
As I wear my new designer coat, I feel like a million dollars. But as I walk with Jesus I feel priceless.
