Michelle Finley: Everything Old Is New Again

It’s that time of year again.  Have you been making your list of New Year resolutions? I know I have! Eat right, exercise more, be a better wife, mother and friend! My list is endless as I’m always looking to improve in all areas of my life. I’m also making some fashion resolutions…

Start by thinking “winter cleaning” versus “spring cleaning”.  I mean, now is the best time to really clean out your closet.  You’ve just gotten a new haul of goodies from Santa, work may be slower and the kids are out of school.  Most of the time we are told to clean out and get rid of things you haven’t worn in a while, but what if we adopt a new mind set.  How about pulling out the “old” and making it “new” again.  Just because you haven’t worn it in a while doesn’t mean it doesn’t fit or isn’t stylish anymore.

For instance, that basic black dress, maybe you bought it for a certain occasion and haven’t thought much of it since.  As long as the fit is still good there’s no reason you can’t add a scarf, necklace, jacket or new boots to recreate a new look.  Winter time is the best time for layering up and adding new accessories.  Suddenly because of a new scarf you combine colors you wouldn’t have thought of before.  So maybe that old sweater in the back of your closet can be brought back to life and worn with those new jeans!

My other fashion resolutions are to only shop the sales and choose quality over quantity.  So right now if you have gift cards or extra cash I recommend investing in a large wrap (cape) style scarf.  It’s so versatile and perfect for those warmer winter days we get in Atlanta.  If you haven’t ventured into the OTK boots, don’t be shy.  These have been trending for some time now and look to be hanging around!  I found a pair at TJMaxx for $60, so don’t be afraid of the prices either.

Now it’s time to celebrate 2016 and bring in 2017!   Maybe you are going all out to a party, or maybe you are hanging with friends and watching the Time Square ball drop.  Well, I’ve got you covered with ideas from elegant, festive, dressy casual and casual.  Elegance, festive and dressy casual call for sparkle. Pink sequin dress and floral shoes or black sequins with red heels!  Bring on the party!  Dinner and dancing, I suggest leggings, mine are leather to dress it up a little and just a touch of sparkle in my top.  Or you may be staying home and watching football with friends.  Add a shoulder bearing top to your favorite jeans and those OTK boots and you’ll be comfortable and festive right through midnight!
