Local group to host meeting at Bay Creek Park to discuss concerns

A group of local residents will host a meeting tonight at Bay Creek Park to discuss their concerns over safety issues at the facility’s basketball and skate park areas. The group, Take Back Bay Creek Park and Close the Skate Park and Basketball Court, will meet with residents at the pavilion by the tennis courts tonight at 6:30 PM. Officials from Gwinnett County government have also been invited to attend.

According to the group’s Facebook event page,

“This meeting is to bring the community together to discuss incidents/crimes that have occured at Bay Creek Park and surrounding residential areas with county officials and Gwinnett County PD. Please come and bring suggestions and possible solutions.

You must attend to be heard and be the change this area needs!”

The group was created on Facebook sometime around October 14th, which was also the day that Gwinnett County Police officials released a statement regarding a shooting at the basketball courts. The police report stated that the shooting occurred October 6th, 2015.

Gwinnett Police also released a brief video of the incident via YouTube. (Warning: adult language.)

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that GCPD increased the number of patrols within the park following the October 6th incident, but the Take Back Bay Creek Park group is hoping to create some other solutions through the community dialogue.
