Hundreds of GAA athletes enjoy Kids & Pros clinic at Bay Creek

Football weather arrived just in time for yesterday’s free football clinic at Bay Creek Park. The event, put on by Kids & Pros with help from the Grayson Athletic Association, drew 242 kids from all across Gwinnett County to work with former NFL athletes and Grayson-area coaches.

Parents were able to get training of their own. 67 moms and dads attended a free clinic taught by medical professionals from Gwinnett Medical Center and Next Level Training, covering topics from age-appropriate training to equipment safety.

The day kicked off with a free community festival with booths hosted by the College Football Hall of Fame, Texas Roadhouse, Kids & Pros, Community and Southern Bank, Fitness 19, SkyZone, Gwinnett Medical Center, the Atlanta Gladiators, Gwinnett County Public Libraries and the City of Grayson. Parents and kids alike were able to play games and collect freebies while learning about the various organizations, and Ski Bob Frosty SnoCones was on hand to keep everyone cool.

The instructional period opened with a presentation of the colors by Grayson Cub Scout Pack 499. Then players were welcomed by the Kids & Pros staff, and the coaches were introduced. Coaches included Buddy Curry (Atlanta Falcons), Robert Moore (Atlanta Falcons), Forest Conoly (ESPN College Football Analyst), Floyd Hodge (Atlanta Falcons), Evan Cooper (Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons), Allen Patrick (Cleveland Browns), and Kenyatta Watson (Dallas Cowboys).

Coaches began with a high-knees drill designed to get the players warmed up, and coaches quickly broke players into smaller groups to work on position specific drills. Players ran cones, threw passes, skipped over tackling dummies and otherwise worked themselves into a solid sweat underneath the sun. The clinic concluded with a series of drills to help players tackle safely, followed by a quick lesson on the importance of character.

Sponsors for the clinic were Gwinnett Medical Center, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and the National Football League Foundation.
