Grayson Friday Night Series: All Around the Town Part 2 – Johnnys Pizza

While the Friday before was a beautiful spring night, this past Friday was a rainy, unbelievable mess.  I don’t know about you, but when the weather is trying its best to make me sad, it just seems easier to stay in, wear pajamas and throw on a movie.  That said, I’m happy we didn’t and instead headed out to Johnnys for the second part of this series, where everyone is a friend you just haven’t met yet.

Johnnys Pizza is your classic neighborhood bar – cheers-esque in the way that every one knows your name, and if they don’t, they will soon.  One of the best things about Johnnys is that the regulars promise to be there, rain or shine, and there is always a little something for everyone.  It marries adult fun with a family friendly atmosphere that allows it to be something the whole house can get in on.

We focused on the bar area in all its colorful, bright splendor where local Graysonites congregate to catch up on their week, have a few drinks, and overall just de-stress with a few of their favorite people.  Everyone seems to know each other, but don’t let that intimidate you… we were pretty new the the scene ourselves but you’d think we were lifers from the way we were embraced.  Its the compilation of both the people in the bar and the people behind the bar that really make this place special.  The only thing more colorful than the signs and the chalkboards are the array of people you’ll meet walking from the pizza counter to the bar.  Families smiling, friends laughing, and an awkward first date that we all secretly hope goes well.  We’re routing for you, buddy.

Tonight “slow ride” was playing in the background and the place was packed; families having  New York style pizza in the corner, games available on the big screen, music that just screams a good time, and an extremely attentive and friendly bar staff. Kari and Lissie will make you feel at home, so don’t be afraid to say “hi” or ask about what new summer cocktails they’re working on.  Johnny’s pizza is definitely a family affair, regardless of where you’re sitting and who you’re with.  Olive Garden tried to coin the term “when you’re here, you’re family” but obviously they had yet to step into this place.  They may say it, but when you’re in Johnny’s you feel it.

It was pouring, so the back patio area was definitely out, but its easy to imagine its the place to be come summer.  STILL not a beer drinker (sorry!), but even I know their beer selection is definitely nothing to sneeze at.  Oh and their mozzarella sticks.  Just say “yes” to those.  I said “yes” to two orders…. don’t judge.

Basically if you hate good people, fun company, and adult/family friendly fun you should never ever go here.  Because you’d hate it.  On the off chance that you actually WANT to have a good Friday night, surrounded by fun people and good conversation (when your mouth isn’t full of mozzarella sticks), then Johnny’s is the way to go.

I would go as far to say that Johnny’s is THE definition of a neighborhood bar and hangout here in Grayson.  If you haven’t stopped by yet, you’re missing out.  The people alone are worth the rave review, throw in some solid food and wide array of drinks behind the bar and you really can’t go wrong.
