B-52’s Cindy Wilson to headline Grayson’s “Gimme Shelter” benefit

Hop in your car that’s as big a whale ’cause you’re headin’ on down to Grayson Park this June 13th. The reason is simple: a chance to hear a local legend perform with an all-star band, all in support of two very good causes: Partnership Against Domestic Violence and the Grayson Children’s Fund.

Cindy Wilson, of the B-52’s, is the headline artist for the Gimme Shelter Benefit Concert. She’ll be joined on the stage by Donna Hall of Wet Willie, Tommy Talton of Cowboy/Gregg Allman Band/Tommy Talton Band, legendary guitarist Barry Richman, soul sisters Sandra Hall, Caroline Aiken, Diane Durrett, Melissa Massey and Deborah Reece, Lil Al of the Lee Boys and Anne-Marie Perry. Freddy’s Finest will serve as the rhythm section for all of this amazing talent and other VERY special guests are expected.

The music is going to be great, and the causes are more than worthy.

“We are very excited about the musicians who are involved in this benefit,” said Gail Lane, Grayson’s Community Development Director and the Gimme Shelter event coordinator. “And we’re so proud that these amazing musicians will be using their talents to help us bring awareness to these very significant causes.”

The Partnership Against Domestic Violence works to end the crime of intimate partner violence and empower its survivors. Did you know that:

  • One in four American women will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime?
  • Georgia ranks 9th in the nation for the most cases involving men killing women?
  • Georgia has the highest rate of teen dating violence in the U.S?

The statistics are alarming and show how necessary it is to have PADV’s commitment to providing awareness and support for victims.

The Grayson Children’s Fund makes a huge difference to families in Grayson. The GCF began in 2005 and has served over 500 Grayson youth with anonymous Christmas gifts and back to school supplies, as well as providing for families in need in our community. Administered by volunteers, 100% of all donations are spent on the children and families.

The Gimme Shelter Benefit Concert is on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. This is a 21 and over event; tickets will be going on sale during the first week of May. Grayson area restaurants will be on site cooking up a multitude of dinner options that night; beer and wine will also be sold at the venue. No outside food or beverages will be allowed in the gate.
